As this past off-season went along Tom Warner’s full throttle comment had a lot of people turning to the I Think You Should Leave meme, “You sure about that?”
It is the morning after Opening Day, a day in which I streamed baseball from 3:05 PM to 11:30 PM. (I couldn’t make it to the end of the Red Sox game but luckily a 10-month-old allowed me to get up bright and early to finish the game before I checked my phone.) Like most Opening Days I can’t help but feel a slight ping of optimism.
I totally understand the expectations of this Red Sox team. I agree with them. Still, the lineup might be exciting. The pitching is definitely flawed but they have Brayan Bello who went 5 IP, 2 ER, 2K, 0BB, and got the win. They also have an absolute superstar hitting lasers from the 2-hole in the lineup.
Sprinkle in young exciting guys like Triston Casas (3rd in Rookie of the Year voting last year), Jarren Durran, Ceddanne Rafaela along with Vaughn Grissom on the horizon the Red Sox will at least have some exciting moments this year. They already a Major League Baseball record set in the first game of the season.
This is all bonkers. I understand that. They may miss the playoffs…again and finish at the bottom of the AL East…again (did you see what Baltimore did?) and yet I am optimistic. I am just happy to have baseball in my life for the next seven months.
